Jacqueline Susan Mbabazi
She was born on 18/08/1954 in Rukungiri District, South Western Uganda.
She grew up in a religious setting of the Anglican Church, went to various Primary schools in the Kabale District where her father worked for the Church and then to Bweranyangi Girls Secondary School in Bushenyi District for O’Levels. Her A’Levels brought her to Kampala, to a Catholic school, Trinity College Nnabingo, where she also began to appreciate the Catholic Faith. She Studied Sciences and then Joined the Faculty of Science at Makerere University Kampala in 1973.She graduated in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science and a concurrent Diploma in Education.
Jacqueline taught at Kitante Hill Secondary School until 1981, when she went into Political exile in Kenya and later Sweden, where she went back to University, first did a Diploma in the Swedish language and then an MSc in Biotechnology. Later she also did a Diploma in International Management at Sigtuna, Sweden .She returned to Uganda in 1978 and worked with the Ministry of Defense, to set up the National Enterprise Corporation, which was to engage soldiers who had left the guerilla war (1981-1985) and wanted to return to civilian life.
1n 1992,Jacqueline became one of the Pioneers who set up the Uganda Revenue Authority as Assistant Commissioner for Customs and Excise .She later became Deputy Commissioner and then Commissioner for Customs and Excise. In her term of service, she became one of the then 24 Directors and one of the two women, of the World Customs Organization position that took her all over the world.
She left Uganda Revenue Authority in 1999 due to personal and family reasons and then formed, together with others, Agency for National Development, a Non-Governmental Organization to help women and youth. She served as a Non-Executive Director and the head of Training for 3 years and then returned to serving the Government as the Managing Director of the only Ordinance Factory in Uganda (Luwero Industries Ltd).She has now retired from Public Service and is serving full time with Agency for National Development, while she is also the National Chairperson Women’s League of the NRM Political Party. She is also Lay Canon in the Church of Uganda.
She is married to the Prime Minister of Uganda, The Rt. Hon. Amama Mbabazi. They have six children and 8 grand children. She Speaks Swedish and English.
